Whether you're stepping onto the field, court, or gym floor, participating in an adult recreational sports league is a great way to stay active, connect with others, and enjoy the spirit of the game. These leagues are built on the principles of fun, fairness, and fitness—and ensuring a safe and respectful environment is a shared responsibility for everyone involved.
As we head towards the upcoming summer season and beyond, it’s important that all players familiarize themselves with the general guidelines designed to keep play safe, enjoyable, and injury-free. These include recommendations around appropriate footwear and gear, respectful conduct, injury prevention strategies, and a strong emphasis on sportsmanship.
1. Waivers And Becoming a Sanctioned STAC REC PLAYER
Before hitting the courts at the STAC Facility, all participants in STAC Adult Rec Leagues are required to create a player account and complete a waiver. This is a mandatory step to ensure player safety, league accountability, and a smooth experience for everyone involved.
2. Player Minimum Age
To participate in any STAC Adult Rec League, all players must be at least 18 years of age on or before the start date of the league. This policy ensures that all participants are legally considered adults and able to consent to the terms outlined in our waiver and league rules.
3. Player Eligibility Rules
To maintain fair and competitive play, STAC Adult Rec Leagues follow specific player eligibility rules that apply throughout the season, especially leading into playoffs. These rules ensure that all teams compete on an even playing field and that participants are fully engaged throughout the league.
To be eligible to participate in playoff games, a player must have:
i) Played in at least 2 regular season games
ii) Participation is verified through game rosters and score submissions
iii) This applies to all players, regardless of skill level or team role
Note: Teams attempting to use ineligible players in playoffs (i.e., "ringers") will face penalties or disqualification.
4. Team Captain Roles & Responsibilities
As the team captain, you play a critical leadership role both on and off the field. To ensure a smooth and enjoyable season for everyone, please make sure you complete the following responsibilities before Week 1:i) All teammates must electronically sign the league waiver before participating in any games. As the team captain, you are responsible for ensuring that that your players have completed this.
ii) Captains are responsible for confirming that no unwaivered player steps onto the field or court.
iii) Captains are expected to ensure all teammates have read and understand the league rules, sportsmanship policies, and code of conduct.
iv) Rules are provided on the STAC REC League Website and will be emailed before the season.
5. Team Names & Expectations
Team names must be appropriate for all participants and align with the values of STAC Adult Rec Leagues. Names that include profanity, offensive language, or content that goes against the league’s standards of sportsmanship and community are not permitted. If a team name is deemed inappropriate, STAC reserves the right to request a change. Teams must comply and update their name upon notification from the STAC team.
6. Physical Play
STAC REC is a recreational league focused on fun, fairness, and safety. While we understand some physical contact may occur in the course of play, any excessive, aggressive, or intentional physical behavior will not be tolerated. All players are expected to conduct themselves with respect toward opponents, teammates, officials, and staff. Teams are responsible for the behavior of every team member.
We follow a three-strike system for physical incidents:
i) Strike One: The player or team receives a formal warning. The incident will be documented and shared with the team captain.
ii) Strike Two: A second warning may be issued, or the player may be suspended from league play for a period of time, at the discretion of STAC management.iii) Strike Three: The player or team will be removed from the league with no refund. Removal applies to all STAC leagues — the individual or team will not be allowed to participate in any future league at the STAC Facility.
In cases of severe or dangerous physical behavior, STAC reserves the right to immediately remove a player or team without following the three-strike progression.
By participating, all players agree to these terms. Our goal is to keep STAC REC leagues safe, competitive, and enjoyable for everyone.
